Anybody ever get started cooking just realize you are out of a item the recipe calls for :eek: If so, what did you use for a substitute?

I was battering up some fish the other night and realized I didnt have any saltine crackers to crush ......so I looked in the cabinet and saw the un-opened rice crispy box that has been sitting there for a month, and I said ......hmmmm ......I wonder how that would taste. To my surprise it didnt turn out half bad, but I still prefer the crackers.

Usually my rules are

Salt, Pepper, Flower = Ky. Kernel Flower
Bread Crumbs = same ammount of stove top stuffing then beat the hell out of it to make the crumbs
Water = Beer ;)

2 cans stewed tomatos, plenty of garlic & italian seasoning, cook up some onions in some olive oil and red wine, mix it all together and you have a hell of a good spaghetti sauce.

I had a box of instant keylime pie the other day. Wanted it bad too! The directions called for whipping cream, didn't have none but I did have a bowl of cool whip. NOT THE SAME THING!!!!! Pie sucked!!!!
