How long can you keep peanut oil? I've had some, that I used Thanksgiving, stored in the garage and was wondering if it would be OK. Thanks Tom.

It will be fine.

I would recommend straining it first, though. Generally, I usually don't reuse my oil if I'm planning on cooking something different than what I cooked before, or if the oil got much over 400 degrees.

Thanks guys! I always strain the oil even though I only use it to fry turkeys. Have you all ever tried any other type oil? Peanut works great but it's kinda expensive. Tom

Tom,
I have used corn oil once. But it's dangerous as all get out, because of its low flash point. If just about any oil other than peanut boils out over the top of the cooker (and how often does that happen?) it will very likely catch fire, and a couple gallons of cooking oil makes a REALLY big fire.
For the difference in cost, the safety factor makes it cheap.

OK, P Beyer may have answered this, but I just want a clarification... I fried a turkey for thanksgiving too (did anyone not on this forum?) but got lazy and never emptied it out of the frier (reminded by wife daily)... its been sitting covered on my deck since then. Think it would be OK to just go ahead and strain it back into its container or should I ditch it?

I would be concerned that the bits of meat and stuff would've spoiled and ruined
