I mentioned this on the Sportsmens Caucus topic and thought a few might want to read a little about it.

This is the first time that I remember seeing any such act??? It's something else that won't be enforced because it is so new and many will refuse to get it.

Highbow, read it closely. That's the law in Oklahoma and enforced simply because you can't buy a license without the Legacy Permit.

In OK, KDFWLR doesn't need anymore ideas of extra fees, sorry I didn't see that part.

Actually it wasn't the OKDFWR that came up with the plan, just a couple of concerned state legislators and it passed easily. I'm a bit shocked any hunter would oppose such a small fee to purchase public hunting areas. I just bought a fast food meal for $5.25 and bet dollars to doughnuts most eat one such meal nearly every trip. I understand you dislike the department, the commision , Teleckek , Jonathan Day and Jon Gassett but see no logic at all opposing more public hunting areas.

Got to say im with ya there. I have been a vocal proponent of additional fee's to buy Peabody WMA( It's basically on loan) here in Ky. $5 Seems purty cheap to me for buying additional land. I like the Idea.

Okie, you're wrong on several things there. First I don't dislike the Dept. I have friends within the dept and respect many highly, Dr. Gassett and Jon Day being two of those. Do I agree with all the decisions , NO. I have a long time friend who is now a commissioner, I'm a very dedicated deer hunter and have bowhunted for 25 years. These forums are for opinions and I do voice my thoughts on a regular basis. In my opinion we pay enough now for license and there is money to buy land with without starting something extra, would I pay the fee if it was started yes, because I'm a sportsman that supports. My statement was meant to give the meaning that it wouldn't be popular with everyone.

I would not be opposed to paying an extra $5 for a hunting license if there was some kind of guarantee(law) that the money HAD to be used for purchasing land for hunting.

This is a state law. Reads like there will be a bond issue to put 30 million into land acquisition to be repaid out of Legacy money over the years. Lord knows I'm no genious but can anybody see where 30 million in new WMA land in Ky would be a good thing ? Might even sell enough new permits to pay for it !:)

OKIE, with the way our moneys get rerouted in KY they could end up building a golf course on top of Freedom Hall with it, but I like the concept if it was setup only for that and divided throughout the state.

Nathan I lived there most of my life. Know a few of those in Frankfort quite well. Well enough to be sure they'd be happy lads to have funds to acquire more WMA land.

It's hard to get the Dept. to earmark money for specific projeects. It's something that we've asked about before with user fees for specific WMAs and the money staying with the WMA that generated the funds. The idea didn't get much attention.

Now, in a few, you'll be hearing about a legislative change to require a license of some sort to use a State owned or managed WMA. This will require non-hunting users to purchase a license of some sort to use the area. Current license holders are exempt. This is just for those not covered by a hunting license or a fishing license of some sort. Will the money be used for land aquisation or habitat or office expenses????

Yeah but how many $5 do they add every time you turn around they will be adding $5 until the majority of hunters in Ky will have to poach to hunt because they can't afford it

Same thing I noticed here. The 5$ broke everyone and all these trailers with 2 $4000 ATV's and $20,000 bass rigs are for sale.
Still tough for me to understand how a similar program would be a bad thing in Ky. Isn't one of the most voiced complaint lack of access?

I agree it would be agood thing. Getting it done is a hard thing. Let's say they don't have much interest in what other states do better than them?
