I was hunting this morning in Carter CO at my mother-in-laws I seen 3 deer before 7:00 they came up behind me and snorted and blew(never put your tree stand on a ridge where 2 ravine's meet) they always catch my scent and I am 15 feet in the air. Any way I got down and decied to follow the one deer trail down the hollow a little bit it gets pretty steep and slick, so I found a big tree to sit down and lean up against(thats how my late father always hunted) and I knew I wouldn't see anything but what the heck so I took unnocked my arrow put it back in the quiver and laid the bow down and got very quiet, all I could hear was the rain. Been sitting for half hour and here comes this doe from know where, 20,15, 10, and finally only 5 feet away from me, no joke she kept sneffing and holding her head up but otherwise never alarmed. guy's she looked right into my eyes and never done anything this went on for 20 mintues maybe longer, that is the strangest thing that ever happen to me hunting, it almost seem like she wanted to come up to me. Do you think this maybe was someone pet deer at one time or just young and dumb.

I have had a similar experience with a young doe ,hard to say what they are thinking and im not really sure if the one i saw was scared or not. I think one of two things happened im my case either she couldnt smell me and didnt notice me until it was too late and then was unsure whether to run or stay still . Or she simply was so curious about me and didnt connect fear to me and simply checked me out relly close though made me kinda nervous . I actually was also out coon hunting one night and had an 8 point probably 110 inch buck do the same thing to me and actually followed us thru the wods but he acted kinda ill towards us also made us a little unnerved..

I really thought if she got any closer I would have to say " BOO" or something like that to get her to move, you never know if they might attack or what, plus I thought there might have been a buck with her wouldn,t have done me much good though with my bow laying on the ground huh.

I've had it happen a lot of times. It usually happens when they can't smell you, but know you are there, and you aren't supposed to be. I just had a it happen twice last night. One came about 10 yards from me, and she was an older doe. Her two fawns stayed back aways, and after about 10 minutes she left. At the end of the night, another young doe came to about 5 yards and would not leave. I finally started waiving and moving around, and she would trot off a little, but keep coming back. I finally walked out, and she just stood there and watched me.

Harold I once had two does walk up to me while I was standing in the middle of a logging road . I was wearing a complete hunter orange rainsuit 'cause it was pouring. The deer came straight to me, split and passed me on either side close enough that I could have touched them. Before they got out of sight a nice 9-point walked up the same road following them:)

i had a little 4 pointer do me like that 2 weeks ago. he was coming straight toward me and stopped about 10 yds and looked me straight in the eye for a moment, made a 90 degree turn and went completely around me and went about his business.

Back in the early 90's. Afriend and i was hunting on Rex Critzer property in Brown county, Ind. Well after being in the tree most of the morning mother nature decide to call. I climb down and went several yards away from the tree stand. While doing the # 1 here come this doe walking towards me. She got to about 20 feet of me and looked right at me. Nothing i could do but squat there and watch her go right on by. They say a bear doesn't sh@@@@@t in the woods, well they might not but i do know i haven't from that day forward. I make sure i go before going out to hunt.

Take it from me... DON'T do that! I stretched out my hand( at the same time asking him how he was doin?) at a 6pt. buck one year and he snorted, JUMPED over me and back-kicked on the way by as i rolled backward off the log i was a sittin on. My finger tips nearly touched his nose!

A few years back I was cutting wood and turned around and saw a doe standing about 20 feet away from me checking me out. I turned off my chainsaw and she bolted. About a half hour later I saw her about 40 yards away staring right at me and she stayed there until I turned off my saw again. Thought that was pretty strange.
