whats a search bot?

i happened to be looking at the who's online thing and it showed all members that were online and guests also showed 2 search bots were online named yahoo slurpy sliders anyone know what that means? im just a dumb hilljack on a mixed up scrabble board

A search bot is basically a computer program that goes from website to website and follows every link on a page to "index" or find out what's on what page.

This is how the search engines gives you results revelant to the keywords entered. When you go to yahoo.com and type in a search for kentucky hunting ... the search bot has been here and knows what the site is about so that it can point you this way.

Just about every search engine has it's own spider that is going from page to page and taking note of what is where on the web.
