Grouse Cycle

<font color="red"><font size="4"><font face="Comic Sans MS">Just wondering if the GROUSE CYCLE is up or down this year. I have only been out once this year and flushed eight birds in four hours with two reflushes. Is anyone else seeing alot of birds??? I've been 3 trips & jumped 7 birds with one in the bag. I'm not seeing neer the birds I did last year. to much rain this past spring.

I hunted the Friday after Thanksgiving in Owsley county, move 5 birds and killed three. Hunted on Saturday in Menifee county, moved 5 birds and killed one. I'm seeing more birds than normal.

In this area the birds had the best hatch in 6 years. The study on Yatesville lake showed the same results. Birds are up high, this cold spell and the lack of mash this year will drive the birds down in the hollows.

Took two yesterday, flushed one more. We took 11 in from the two day hunt. Rolly and Ron Dampier hunted along with Claude Jacobs, they failed to score. Jerry Holbrooks and Wesley Watson won the hunt with four birds. You and these other grouse hunters should get in on this. Our next club hunt will be in two weeks, if your interested give me a call.

We're trying to develop a means, so people can hunt in different areas of the state with out having to drive to Paintsville for check in. Got any ideals. You know that trust thing only goes so far, and first place is nothing, bragging rights.

I'll give you a call this weekend. I'm in Tenn now. I hunted my a$$ off Saturday and didn't move a bird. Hunted 5 farms in Morgan county where I have always moved birds.
Rolly is trying to buy him self a GOOD dog right now. I'll keep you posted on it.

hey birdman, we hunted in your neck of the woods on thursday of last week & only moved two birds.( both pointed by setters not gsp's)I was in the best grouse cover I had seen in years. every thing from smothered honeysuckle benches to mouthwatering clearcuts & a lot of it. we were right on the magoffin,johnson county line . I believe it was route 815. how many birds have you been averaging to move a day ? I was a little dissapointed after hearing about such a good hatch, but hey thats grouse huntin'. " going to the kings castle does't gaurantee that he's home"

I'll have to check, but it's some where around two per hunt. I've have some days of 0 birds and some of 4. Hunted with Multi this week-end we flew one bird on a two day hunt. He's a trooper, we had a great time.

Were you hunting with someone from this area, on private or public land?

skunkie, good to see your on site. I've been trying to get in touch for about a month now. We have a hunt this week-end and a dinner on Sun. night. You need to be there. Call we need to talk.

ron i just learned this thing had 2 pages the other day. not very good at this. charles and i arnt haveing much luck this year. all of our holes are dryed up. found more last year in one day than in a mth this year!!
