How did everyone do that was either brave enough or stupid enough to hunt turkeys in this weather?
I went out with Redbone and after seeing more than 75 turkeys in 1.5 hours, I took a jake with a muzzleloading shotgun at 19 steps. We saw lots of birds and finally coaxed 4 young gobblers in to our 2 jake dekes. It was cold, but lots of fun.

I went out to Taylorsville WMA and didn't see anything. I heard a few yelps around sunrise and actually heard a lone gobble which suprised the heck out of me. I still have a couple of days though. Tim, did you hunt private land?

Yes, it was a private 200 acre farm in Shelby Co. that a friend has permission on.

I made a blind on the edge on my clover field and put up my umbrella roof over it to keep the snow off my neck. I only saw hens and elected not to shoot. I can't get excited about shooting hens for some reason. Good deal, Tim on the m.l. kill!
I hunted hard today, had birds all over me, saw around 50. Anyone needing help on setting up about 15 yards OUT of range? I'm your man

Tim, looks like u had a lot milder weather than I did! I heard turkeys but didn't see any. Hunted about 4 hours, and I literally got covered with snow. I enjoyed being out though as we don't often get snow like that. I'm going to try it again tomorrow afternoon and try to get lucky.

Good job, looks like the TK2000 did its job! Merriams and Eastern's in the bag! We'll finish the other two for the TK2000 slam in a few months. Now it's time to concentrate on mallards.

I had a blast hunting with Tim, saw lots of turkeys.
Tim, still can't believe you passed on that one shot! LOL

I have walked 2 farms in the snow and haven't seen a turkey track. Got some good late season deer scouting in though. That's the real reason I turkey hunt in the fall. Been hunting since they opened the season for fall and have only taken 1 jake, the last time it snowed during fall turkey season. Me and a friend just followed thier tracks and walked up to 30 yards of them in the woods. My hunting places just don't have many fall birds. Congrat's on the bird Tim!

Well done, Tim.
Worked Wed. & Thur., wanted to go this morning but wife had car trouble... barring emergency I'm going Saturday & Sunday.
That $15 tag is burning a hole in my pocket, I'd at least like to take it to the woods for a while!

Cold, cold very cold. No toms or hens. No birds to be seen. Not even a track. But during modern firearms they were all over the place. Does the snow do something to them. Seemed like they were JUST gone.

I hunted a farm that I saw turkey tracks on early during bow season. I went out there on Sat. and saw tracks everywhere. Even where I parked, right next to the gravel driveway, I had tracks criss-crossing everywhere. I set up where most of the tracks came out of the woods, but couldn't get the flock to come to my calls. I ended up circling around and cutting off the flock and busted them up. I called them back in, but didn't see them when they re-grouped at about 35 yds, because they were below a small rock ledge. By the time I snuck to the ledge and looked over, they were gone, but saw one still coming in from my right. I waited until she was about 25 yards away and shot her. She ended up being about 13-14lbs. Not bad for a farm where I had never seen turkeys in previous years.

Sunday afternoon I went to an area where I'd seen birds on several occasions returning to the roost. I got there early, since there was a possibility that they could go up early. During the afternoon I watched two bucks in the 150 range really go at it, then watched the larger of the two for another half hour from about thirty-five yards before he meandered off. Around five, about fifteen birds ambled in and I took the boss hen without pulling a call out of my vest. Nice bird of slightly over eighteen pounds.

That's a big ol' hen, Schuyler!
Got out Sat. & Sun. with a buddy who had never turkey hunted before. We flushed one nice tom walking through a cedar thicket. Later I threw out some clucks from our blind, and a hen clucked & purred (sounded more like angry talk than contented talk) about 20 yards away! It was really thick in front of her, but I saw her head/neck well enough to shoot... but I'd already told my buddy if a lone bird came in, it was his. Would you believe, sitting right next to me in the same blind, he could not see her through the brush! I kept whispering "shoot, shoot, shoooot! Take the safety off & SHOOOOT!" He finally turned to me & said "I can't see it!" What can I say, turkeys, even hens, get me all riled up.
She finally clucked off straight away from us, after coming within 15 yards. My buddy said those few minutes were the most exciting hunting he'd ever done. I told him wait 'till spring!
Tim, my Kentucky Thunder sure does cluck like a hen turkey! Did you use yours on your hunt?
